Looking for Ideas

Hi all in duathlon land.
I am looking for your input as to what you think will resurrect duathlon. Throw me some ideas at what you'd like to see at races. I have proposed a"National Parks Department Duathlon Series" held in some of the most scenic US Parks. Shorter distances and possibly culminating in a series championships? Think back to the Coors Light days but only the US Parks Dept as sponsor. Your thoughts?

like the idea of a series, because it might make people commit to du's more, instead of showing up at one just because there were no local tri's that weekend.

are you proposing on- or off-road? not sure whether xterra's growing popularity applies just to tri's or whether du's could capitalise on it as well. du's are just fucking HARD, but off-road du's seem more fun and laid back - the diff between mtn bikers and roadies, i guess - so maybe luring people into off-road might coax them into road events.

IMO what duathlon could use, at least in these parts, is a phelps or armstrong. joerie, luv ya but ya don't have much currency here; nor you catriona. a standup spokesperson for the sport, pref a hot dude, would do wonders for race registrations. wherefore art thou, kennyd?

thanks for the input finn!
I was thinking more on road but offroad is something to think about.
totally agree with you on du lacking a spokesperson but if you think about it tri really doesnt have any either.
back in the day we had Kenny Souza but now it seems most athletes are more subdued. du used to have a kind of rock-n-roll attitude but its definately lost its mojo as of lately.

I'd like to a series of duathlons in or near population centers. I like the national park idea, but most national parks at least here in the West involve quite a bit of travel. I think duathlon should be about accessibility. From an event promoter's point of view, I'm way more interested in organizing a duathlon for a multisport event because I don't need to worry about a body of water.

I agree that we need role models - but more so we need stories of the sport. Epic, inspiring stories. I'm sure there are lots of epic stories that come from Zofigen, but where are they? Where can I read about them?

I totally agree with you guys.
Duathlon suffers from the marketing giant that is Ironman.
As you said, if the media would cover Zofingen like ironman is Duathlon certainly would benefit from it. It is arguably a tougher race and for me the swiss alps are far more appealing than sand and water;)
